As a silent protagonist, Link has had few chances over the years to show his full personality, and Breath of the Wild Link is no exception. However, by reading the dialogue options you can use to respond to NPCs, you're given access to Link's less serious personality, seeing a whole new side of Hyrule's chosen hero.

Although these dialogue options won't change the outcome of the game in any drastic way, it's great to see the developers pay attention to detail in these smaller interactions and build Link's character in a unique way. Whether a humorous pun or a blunt response, Breath of the Wild is filled with many little gems that'll help you get to know Link.

10 "Sand Seal? Sealiously?"

Split image screenshots of a sand seal in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a Gerudo with four dialogue options for Link, each with a seal pun.

For fans of puns, these dialogue options are sure to make you laugh. When renting a sand seal to use to travel across the Gerudo Desert, you're given no option but to say a seal-related pun, demonstrating Link's light-hearted sense of humor. This moment is a welcomed break from the harsh reality of having to face down Calamity Ganon later down the line.

It's funny to see the usually stoic Link show a glimpse of the sillier side of his personality, proving that even the hero of Hyrule can break out some puns from time to time.

9 "Paraglider, Please?"

Central Hyrule in Breath of the Wild

When Link first wakes up on the Great Plateau after 100 years, one of the items you'll be itching to get your hands on is the paraglider, and it's clear to see that Link feels the same way. Jumping from the heights of the Great Plateau without this handy paraglider would result in certain death, so it's no surprise Link is eager to receive it.

The Old Man makes you jump through a fair few hoops to obtain this important item, collecting four Spirit Orbs from the Shrines of the Great Plateau to be specific, meaning both you and Link are more than ready to get this item and properly start your adventure.

8 "You're Pretty Too."

Split image screenshots of Lasli from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a close-up shot of a Sunset Firefly.

This dialogue option is available after completing the By Firefly's Light side quest in Kakariko Village, which involves you collecting five Sunset Fireflies for the NPC Lasli and releasing them in her house at night. Lasli is unperturbed by the fact you've just released a handful of bugs into her house, and comments on their magical glow, saying "They glow so prettily… It's magical".

What makes this moment so humorous is Link's response to Lasli, deciding that this is the perfect moment to call her pretty, too. Between fighting monsters and saving princesses, Link is pretty smooth.

7 "He's Got A Dumb Belly."

Zelda BOTW Master Kohga In Two Phases Of The Battle

For someone that doesn't speak much, Link clearly has a way with words, which is demonstrated by this dialogue option that's given in response to a disguised Yiga Clan member calling Master Kohga "so dreamy".

Link doesn't share the same sentiment, and his response is proof of that. It's plain to see that Link doesn't fear Master Kohga or see the Yiga Clan as a threat, as he bravely insults the Yiga Clan's leader to a loyal fan's face. It's funny to see Link describe one of his opponents in this way — let's just hope Master Kohga doesn't catch wind of what he's been saying.

6 "I Am He."

Legend of Zelda Breath Of The Wild Link Standing Over Hyrule

Link's curt responses to NPCs make for some funny dialogue options and this quote is no exception. When responding to an NPC asking if Link has met the hero of Hyrule, Link truthfully answers, "I am he".

Although he may be telling the truth, it's understandable why the NPCs of Breath of the Wild would struggle to believe him, which makes this dialogue option all the more humorous. An impactful moment where Link reveals his identity as the hero of Hyrule is instead played for laughs, as Link has no problem telling random NPCs about his rediscovered heroic title.

5 "You Like This Corner?"

One of the shopkeepers in Hateno Village, Sophie, prefers to stand in the corner while serving customers, and Link is quick to call out this strange behavior. Although Link is probably genuinely curious about Sophie's preference for standing in the corner, the way he words his question is abrupt and funny without context.

It's great that Breath of the Wild pays attention to detail when it comes to subtle character quirks and has Link pick up on them too, making the world and its people feel more alive.

4 "To Set Things On Fire!"

One of the first "weapons" you can pick up after awakening from the Shrine of Resurrection is the ever-faithful torch, which Link steals from the Old Man's campfire. When the Old Man asks Link what he's planning to do with the torch, one of the dialogue options is to say, "To set things on fire!".

It's great to see a glimpse of Link's personality as soon as you start playing the game, as Link shows some concerning pyromaniac tendencies, wanting to set things on fire as soon as he gets the chance. This dialogue option is a precursor for things to come, as you're able to acquire fire arrows and use torches to light fires and set enemies alight pretty early in the game.

3 "You're My Dream Girl!

Split image screenshots of a Gerudo and the Voe and You class in Gerudo Town in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

In Breath of the Wild, one of the details you can discover in Gerudo Town is the fact that a Gerudo named Ashai teaches a class called Voe and You, where young Gerudo learn how to talk to men. Kyra, a Gerudo you can encounter traveling in the desert, clearly took these lessons to heart, as she attempts to strike up a conversation with Link, telling him he has a place in her dreams.

Link picks up on Kyra's intentions and replies, "You're my dream girl!" — a cheesy, but timeless pick-up line.

2 "Good-BYE!"

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Gerudo Set (Armour) - Split Image with Link Wearing Gerudo Armour Set on both sides

As part of The Eighth Heroine and The Forgotten Sword side quests, Link dons the Gerudo set to disguise himself as a Vai to convince Bozai to hand over both his snow and sand boots. Bozai is clearly smitten with the disguised Link, but Link is a man on a mission and is only here to obtain his boots, leaving no time for romance.

When Bozai asks Link if he wants to spend some time together, Link curtly responds, "Good-BYE!" It's funny to see poor Bozai rejected in this way, as Link doesn't show him any mercy and leaves the conversation as soon as he gets what he wants.

1 "I'm The Best!"

Breath of the Wild weapons The Master Sword

In response to an NPC praising Link for being someone who sets his mind on something and gets it done, Link lets him know that he's the best. After all he's been through, it's great to see Link show some self-love and be confident in his abilities as the hero of Hyrule.

It's very possible that Link is only joking about being the best Hyrule has to offer, but this is a fun dialogue option nonetheless, once again demonstrating Link's not-so-serious side. It's only fair that the hero of Hyrule gets the chance to talk about his achievements once in a while.
